Spring 2008 - Tool Test
Automated usability evaluation tools can measure the extent to which an interface conforms to various guideline-based criteria. This technique is particularly useful for evaluating the accessibility of web sites to people with various disabilities.
For this assignment, you will apply a web accessibility evaluation tool to a web page or document. You will give a ten-minute presentation to the class on the results of your test. Your presentation will describe the tool and its goal, the site that was analyzed, and the results of the test. You should also critique the testing software: was the feedback helpful and comprehensible?
A list of web accessibility evaluation tools can be found at http://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/tools/. Although some of these tools are commercial products, there are more than enough that are web-based or freely available. You are welcome to use tools that are not on this list as well.
The content that you evaluate with the tool is up to you.
One student will present an evaluation each week, with a schedule to be posted shortly - on the semester schedule after the first class session.
