SCIENCE FICTIONWRITING
An Introduction to Plot, Plot Structure, and the M.I.C.E. Quotient
Notes:
Hello, and welcome to Science Fiction Writing: An Introduction to the Skills and Techniques of Writing Speculative Fiction. My name is Dr. John L. Flynn, and as a member of the faculty here at Towson University, I teach a 400-level course on Writing Science Fiction for the English Department. The course, which is open to everyone (and not just students enrolled at the university), is offered every year in the Spring, and in the three years that I've taught English 417: Writing Science Fiction, five of my students have published their first stories. I will be teaching the course again in Spring 1999; for those of you who are interested, enrollment is currently under way.
I am also a science fiction writer myself, and a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America. I have written five books, dozens of short stories and articles, and am a regular contributor to numerous science fiction magazines. I also edit and maintain an online science fiction anthology, known as NEXUS, which caters to young, emerging student writers.
